A nine year old boy had to be airlifted to hospital after he fell from a pier while chasing a seagull.
The boy fell 26 feet on to the river bed below while the tide was out from the Banjo Pier at Looe, Cornwall, at about 1.40pm on Sunday.
Looe harbourmaster Tina Hicks said the boy, who is believed to have been on holiday, was chasing the bird after it stole his pasty lunch that he had been eating.
Coastguards, the RNLI and Cornwall Air Ambulance were scrambled to the scene and the boy was flown to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.
His injuries and condition are not yet known.
Miss Hicks urged tourists to be ‘vigilant’ around seagulls and not to feed them.
She said: ‘They are beautiful to look at and photograph if you are on holiday but they are starting to push their luck a bit.’
