He was sentenced at the same court on Friday to 15 years in jail and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Detective Inspector Jimi Tele said: ‘This was a despicable crime committed against an innocent child.

‘I want to thank the family for their bravery in working with police to ensure Taylor was held accountable for his actions; I hope that his sentence today provides them with some comfort and enables them to move on with their lives.

‘I would also like to commend and thank those members of the public who apprehended Taylor until police arrived.’

An NSPCC spokesman: ‘Taylor’s sick behaviour makes him a danger both to children and the wider public – it’s right that he spends a long period in prison where he must be rehabilitated to lessen the risk he poses.

‘A whole family acted bravely during this traumatic incident, and we hope they are all getting the support they need to recover from such a frightening experience.’
