Mohamed Salah Goal Will ‘Silence’ Fans Who Racially Abused Him – Andy Robertson

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson believes Mohamed Salah’s superb goal against Chelsea has silenced the Blues fans who racially abused him.

Mohamed Salah hit a powerful shot into the top corner from 25 yards against his former club to secure the three points for Liverpool and keep them at the top of the table with a 2-0 win at Anfield.

The striker came just three days after a video was released on social media showing six Chelsea fans singing ‘Salah is a bomber’ in a bar ahead of the club’s Europa League tie at Slavia Prague.

The Liverpool striker is a Muslim and the footage sparked outrage, with Chelsea looking to issue bans for all responsible.

There were concerns ahead of the game over how Salah would react to the Islamophobic taunts from supporters of his former club

But speaking to Standard Sport, Liverpool left-back Robertson said: “There was a bit of stuff that had gone on in the week and that’s the way to shut them up.

“The club released a statement on the day and Mo was fine about it. It’s not nice but he dealt with it. It didn’t affect him at all – it didn’t look like it, did it?

“Sadly people are getting used to things like this now because it is happening far too often. Raheem Sterling said the other day that the only way to shut people like this up is to score goals and to beat them (their team). I know it is only a minority of Chelsea fans but Mo certainly quietened them down.

“It was a fantastic goal. He cut inside and clearly fancied his chances. As soon as he hit it, everyone knew that it was in. The place went wild and fair play to him.

“He has come under a bit of criticism (for his performances) this season, unfairly in my opinion. But that will silence them too and hopefully that will give him a lot of confidence going into the final games.”

Chelsea have already identified three of the men responsible for the offensive Salah song and are looking for the other three.
