Two 14-year-old girls who went missing after telling their parents they were heading to a teen music festival have been found.
Jayden Hassan from Croydon and J’Nea Beecher, from Southwark in London, were last seen on Monday 6 August.
But on Saturday, police confirmed that they had been found, six days after they vanished.
A spokesperson said: ‘We would like to thank the media and the public for assistance.’
The friends were going to Teen Fest at Stanley Halls in South Norwood, but Jayden and J’Nea didn’t return home.
Jayden’s grandmother Rita Steele, 56, told her granddaughter to ‘come home’ in an emotional plea on Saturday.
Rita said: ‘We just want her home, that’s all we want. She won’t get into trouble, there weren’t any arguments, we just want her safe.
‘I do not believe she has run away, I do not believe it. I honestly wished there was some kind of row and she’d run off but I just don’t think that’s what has happened.
‘She wouldn’t run away for this long. It’s absolutely horrible, the thoughts which run through your head… it’s just terrible.’
Rita said of Jayden, who is one of six children: ‘Her siblings are missing her terribly, we’re all devastated.’
Jayden’s mother Terri Mulholland said on Thursday that the teenager’s Oyster card was last used to tap in at Oval underground station at 4.02pm on Monday, but that she didn’t tap back out.
Speaking to Southwark News, the 36-year-old said: ‘She was happy and excited when she left.
‘Someone said they saw her at Teen Fest, but then several other people said they heard the girls were going to Essex to meet some boys they were speaking to.’
She said she had not been missing before and that it was ‘totally out of character.’
J’Nea’s mum Samantha Brown, 46, told the publication: ‘We just want her to come home safely. She’s not in any trouble. ‘We love her very much and just want her back home.’
The Metropolitan Police stepped up their search on Friday.
After news about their return was announced on Facebook, relieved social media user commented: ‘Thank god.’
Another one added: ‘So happy they have both been found safe xx’
