News Briefs: 'Blade Runner 2,' 'Transformers 5,' 'The Dark Tower' Casting

Knock Knock

Blade Runner 2: Ana de Armas, who starred in Eli Roth’s thriller Knock Knock (above, right), has joined the cast of the Blade Runner sequel. It’s described as a leading role alongside Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista. Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) will direct; the movie, set several decades after the 1982 original, is scheduled for release on October 6, 2017. [The Wrap]

The Meddler

Transformers 5: Jerrod Carmichael (The Meddler, above) is in talks to costar in the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise. Mark Wahlberg will star, while Isabela Moner (TV’s 100 Things to Do Before High School) is also expected to join the cast. Carmichael recently began starring in his own television sitcom, The Carmichael Show. Michael Bay will direct; the movie will open in theaters on June 23, 2017. [The Wrap]

The Cabin in the Woods

The Dark Tower: Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods, above) will join Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. Kranz will play Pimli, a character described as “the right-hand man” of the villainous Man in Black (McConaughey). The movie is set for release on February 23, 2017. [THR]

Cafe Society

Cafe Society Trailer: In the first trailer for Woody Allen’s Cafe Society, Jesse Eisenberg stars as a young man who moves to Hollywood in the 1930s, hoping to work in the film industry. Instead, he finds himself caught up in a vibrant new type of society. Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell, Blake Lively and Corey Stoll also star; the movie opens in theaters on August 12. [Movieclips]
