A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two women were killed inside a house in Salisbury.

Emergency services were called to Wessex Road at 2.45pm on Monday, after a member of the public reported concerns for the occupants inside. Officers from Wiltshire Police found the body of one woman and another seriously injured.

The second woman was pronounced dead by paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service a short time later.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody at Melksham Police Station, where he remains.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren Hannant, from Wiltshire Police, told reporters there was no wider threat to the community.

He said: ‘Naturally people will be alarmed due to the large police presence in the area as we carry out our inquiries. I would like to reiterate that we have made an arrest and there is no risk posed to the wider community.

‘The local community are likely to see a significant police presence in this area for a number of days. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the two victims.

‘We would like to thank the local community in advance for their understanding and patience while we carry out our inquiries.’
